NA SPEAKER'S MEETINGS IN SAINT PETERSBURG

On November 22 the RA NA Speaker Hovik Abrahamyan had bilateral
meetings with the Speaker of the State Duma of the Russian Federation
(RF) Sergey Narishkin and the Speaker of the Federal Council of the
RF Federal Assembly Valentina Matviyenko.
During the meeting with the Speaker of the RF State Duma Sergey
Narishkin the speakers of the two parliaments discussed issues
concerning the activation of inter-parliamentary relations, cooperation
in the international parliamentary organizations and a number of
issues of bilateral interest.
The Speaker of the State Duma highlighted his official visit
to Armenia in strengthening of the Armenian-Russian inner-state
cooperation. He has deemed necessary the further deepening and the
development of inter-parliamentary cooperation, has highlighted
the mutual visits, which promote more strengthening of friendly
relations between Armenia and Russia. In the development of the
Armenian-Russian inter-parliamentary relations Mr Narishkin has
considered important the activity of the inter-parliamentary committee
of the RA NA and RF Federal Assembly: its upcoming sitting will be
held in Yerevan on November 29. To his conviction, the Committee's
work essentially promotes the stable and dynamic development of the
RA and RF inter-parliamentary relations. Sergey Narishkin thanked Mr
Abrahamyan for organizing at high level and holding in Yerevan the
first joint visiting sitting of the CSTO United headquarters and the
chairmen of the committees on Defense and Security Affairs of the
CSTO PA member states.
The RA NA Speaker Hovik Abrahamyan has documented with satisfaction
that the Armenian-Russian ties develop, to which Sergey Narishkin's
official visit to Armenia promoted. The NA Speaker has highlighted
the further development of the inter-parliamentary relations and the
deepening of cooperation in international parliamentary organizations.
Hovik Abrahamyan has noted that Armenia attaches great importance to
the CSTO activity. In his word, the organization is an established
military-political structure and an important factor of keeping
stability in the post-Soviet territory. To his conviction, the activity
of the CSTO Parliamentary Assembly is also rather effective.
In the NA Speaker's opinion, as an effective example of cooperation
of the CSTO Parliamentary Assembly and Statutory bodies of the
Organization may also be considered the Yerevan sitting of the CSTO
United headquarters and the chairmen of the committees on Defense
and Security Affairs of the CSTO PA member states.
During the meeting the sides discussed other issues pertaining to
the development of inter-parliamentary relations.
On the same day the NA Speaker Hovik Abrahamyan had a meeting with the
Speaker of the Federal Council of the RF Federal Assembly Valentina
Matviyenko.
Mrs Matviyenko has underlined that Armenia is an important strategic
partner of Russia and has highly appreciated the contribution of the
speakers of the two countries in strengthening of the Armenian-Russian
relations. Touching upon her official visit to Armenia in July and
remembering it with warmth, she thanked Hovik Abrahamyan for warm
reception in the name of delegation and her. Valentina Matviyenko has
highlighted and effectively assessed her official visit to Armenia
and noted that after the visit the Armenian-Russian relations have
turned into a new qualitative phase. In the development of inner-state
relations Valentina Matviyenko has emphasized the further deepening
of inter-parliamentary relations. The Speaker of the RF Federal
Council has stressed that Russia highly appreciates the activity of
the RA authorities led by the RA President Serzh Sargsyan during the
recent years in the progress of the country and the development of
the Armenian-Russian relations, expressing confidence that the people
of Armenia realize all this and will evaluate as granted.
Mr Abrahamyan has documented with satisfaction the dynamic development
of the Armenian-Russian cooperation and inter-parliamentary relations.
He has stressed that Armenia greatly highlights the further deepening
and strengthening of cooperation in different directions with Russia.
In reinforcement of Armenia-Russia cooperation he also highly
appreciated Mrs Matviyenko's official visit to Armenia. Touching upon
the activity of the IPA CIS, Hovik Abrahamyan has noted that the CIS
Inter-parliamentary Assembly has an important significance in the
life of the CIS member countries and has a big contribution in the
development of national legislation, boosting of inter-parliamentary
cooperation and establishing peace in the region. Both sides
highlighted the activity of the RA NA and RF FA Inter-parliamentary
Committee.
At the end of the meeting Valentina Matviyenko invited Hovik Abrahamyan
to Russia on an official visit.
