Armavia goes on sale
Armenian airline Armavia has been put up for sale by its sole owner,
businessman Mikhail Bagdasarov, who intends to dispose of the asset
within the next two or three weeks, RBC Daily reported today.
According to Bagdasarov, economic turmoil and losses incurred in
connection with Armavia's newly acquired Sukhoi SuperJet 100 (SSJ-100)
aircraft, which are being held under pledge by an Armenian bank,
forced him to sell the airline. "There are no Russian investors among
the potential buyers, but Italian and Asian players are interested in
the asset," he told RBC Daily.
Armavia's liabilities are expected to be assumed by the new owner,
which proves that the carrier's hardships are due to poor management,
a source close to SuperJet's maker pointed out.
