It will become clear by the end of 2012 if "Nairit" rubber factory
will start functioning or not. The factory has been standing idle
since April 2010, Armenia's Energy Minister, Armen Movsisyan, said
during today's meeting with chairman of the Trade Union Organization
of the factory, Hrach Tadevosyan, press-service of the factory told
Arminfo correspondent
These words of the minister bring hope to the workers of the factory
that it will start functioning till the end of the current year. The
salary fund of the factory is about $1 mln per month. The factory
has 2700 employees, the great part of which are in the forced vocation.
The salary was given to workers once in two months. The debt on salary
accumulated for 11 months. The salary was not paid for the last two
months. This forced the workers to hold a protest action in front of
the Armenian President's Residence to attract the attention of the
head of state to the problem.
Rumors have been circulating in mass media, that the leader of the
Prosperous Armenia Party, businessman Gagik Tsarukyan, is going to buy
Nairit. The Russian "Itera" company is also among potential customers,
which offers higher price. Moreover, "Itera" has been discussing with
the government of Armenia the possibility of transition of Nairit
factory to the trust management.
