RUSSIA TO DONATE $10 MILLION TO WFP TO FINANCE SCHOOL MEALS PROJECT IN ARMENIA
YEREVAN, November 27. / ARKA /. In 2013-2015 the Russian Federation
will contribute about $10 million to the World Food Program (WFP)
to finance a school meals project in Armenia.
A relevant order of the Russian government was posted on its official
website, Russian RIA Novosti reported. The money will be allocated from
the federal budget. In 2013 the Russian government will allocate $3
million, in 2014 - up to $ 4 million and in 2015 - up to $ 3 million.
In partnership with the Ministry of Education and Science WFP is
implementing in Armenia a school meals project for 50,000 primary
school children in seven out of Armenia's eleven administrative
regions. The project's goal is to support the establishment of a
sustainable national school meals program that is part of national
policies and budgets. WFP plans to hand over the management of the
project to the government in 2016.
WFP is the world's largest humanitarian agency, providing about 4
million tons of food annually. On average, WFP aim to reach more than
90 million people with food assistance in more than 73 countries.
Around 15,000 people work for the organization, most of them in remote
areas, directly serving the hungry poor. -0-
