ARMENIAN PRESIDENT VISITS ARMENIAN UNIVERSITY IN LEBANON

During the second day of his official visit to Lebanon, Armenian
President Serzh Sargsyan visited the Armenian University.

This is the only Armenian higher school outside Armenia, the Tert.am
    correspondent reports from Lebanon.

Serzh Sargsyan is the first Armenian president hosted by the
university. The Armenian leader noted that being hosted by the only
Armenian higher school outside Armenia and delivering a speech there
is an extraordinary and binding experience.

In his speech, President Serzh Sargsyan spoke of the Nagorno-Karabakh
conflict and reminded the attendees that the Nagorno-Karabakh people
has never put up with the Soviet authorities' illegal decision
to subjugate Nagorno-Karabakh to Azerbaijan and, after the USSR's
collapse, with attempts to suppress its will to live free.

"Negotiations have been held for about two decades, but we have
not signed a peace agreement for the only reason that Azerbaijan is
not ready for settling the conflict by means of compromise. The oil
revenues have turned the Azerbaijani leadership's head and given them
illusions about a military settlement of the conflict," the Armenian
    leader said.

Azerbaijan's authorities are wasting millions on armaments, rejecting
any proposals for cooperation and dialogue, he said.

President Serzh Sargsyan also answered the students' questions. He
singled out the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict and admission of the Armenian
Genocide by Turkey as foreign policy challenges.

He reminded the students that, in 2009, when the Armenian-Turkish
protocols were signed, many Armenians, including representatives of
the Armenian community in Lebanon, were strongly objecting to the
    documents as anti-Armenian ones.

"Now they are asking why Turkey has not so far ratified them," the
    Armenian leader said.
