ARMENIA'S AGRICULTURAL OUTPUT IN JAN.-AUG. SURGES BY 10.8 PERCENT: ARMSTAT

YEREVAN, October 1. / ARKA /. Armenia's agricultural output in the
first eight months of 2012 surged 10.8 percent from a year earlier
to 431.2 billion drams at current prices, the National Statistical
Service (ArmStat) said today. According to ArmStat, the agricultural
output together fish production in January-August 2012 increased by
11.1 percent year-on-year to over 440.6 billion drams.
ArmStat said livestock production in August 2012 reached 24.6 billion
drams, a 3.4% rise from 2011 August, crops increased by 14.8 percent
to 116.1 billion drams, and fisheries saw a 29 percent rise to 1.1
billion drams.
According to the National Statistical Service, sales of cattle
and sheep meat in 2012 August as well as poultry (in live weight)
increased by 3.1% compared to August 2011 to 7,600 tons. The largest
sales in August were reported by Gegharkunik and Shirak provinces -
1,200 tons each.
ArmStat's numbers also say that milk production in 2012 August
increased by 3.3 percent from a year before to 56,000 tons. The
largest producer was again Gegharkunik province - 10,300 tons, by
0.4 percent more from 2011 August.
The egg production in August 2012 surged by almost 10 percent from
a year before to 47.4 million pieces. The largest egg producer was
Kotayk province- 9.6 million pieces, by 24 percent more from the same
month in 2011.
The ArmStat said also 611.8 tons of fish were produced in 2012 August,
by 29 percent more than in the same month last year. In August fish
production nearly doubled from the previous month. ($ 1 - 406.25
