"Turkey's active unconstructive involvement resulted in increased
tensions in Syria, which also caused problems for Turkey itself.
Instead of calling Russia, China and Iran for changing their position
on Syria, Ankara as a regional country and Syria's neighbor could
have kept away the conflicting parties from such developments. But
it didn't happen so. On the contrary, it is more than obvious that
Turkey has exclusively a negative role in the Syrian conflict,"
Turkish Studies expert Levon Hovsepyan told Panorama.am, commenting
on Turkey's policy in Syria.
Asked to comment on Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan's
remarks at the ruling Justice and Development Party's (AKP) congress
that "Turkey will not change its position in Karabakh issue until
our Azerbaijani brothers' rights are restored," Mr Hovsepyan said,
"Erdogan's statement is not based even on purely declarative principles
of regional security and stability of Turkey's foreign policy."
"Both the statement of Turkish PM Erdogan at the Justice and
Development Party's congress and the statement of Turkish FM Amhet
Davutoglu at the United Nations General Assembly run counter to
the logic of regional stability and security, principles of the
international community as well as declarative principles of Turkey's
foreign policy," the expert concluded.
