How will the vote to Oskanian's case end? Judging by Galust Sahakyan's
statements made yesterday, RPA will vote for stripping him of
immunity. Galust Sahakyan said that it is not up to the parliament to
make legal conclusions and they had better let the law enforcement
bodies deal with this issue. Besides, as it became clear, even the
most undisciplined Republican MPs were made to attend the meeting of
palriament. This means that the RPA needs quorum.
The Republican Party cannot vote against the prosecutor general's
motion. This would mean, first, the end of the prosecutor general's
career. Second, it would become a precedent of Serzh Sargsyan's
deprivation of the monolith majority. Perhaps, Serzh Sargsyan has
initiated all this confusion with the motion for the system to assure
the monolith remains loyal.
In this context, Vartan Oskanian's revelations seem naïve. They may be
"justified" only by the fact that he wasn't born and didn't grow up in
Armenia, so for him honor is a political criterion. So, he is trying
to prove his innocence in the parliament. "Honor" for the Armenian
officials is an antipode of politics, and it is clear that when voting
the MPs will be led by not what they heard during the debates.
There are other criteria in the Armenian politics. For instance,
the same Oskanian said that if he is "handed over" today, the others
will share his destiny tomorrow. The expression "hand over" was used
also by the ARFD MP Aghvan Vardanyan.
The parliamentary majority will vote proceeding from their political
interests. At this moment, this interest is dictated by the monolith
at least within the RPA.
It is true that later the law enforcers may "find out" that Oskanian
is really innocent, but in the meantime, the monolith will become so
strong that it will be impossible to save Oskanian anymore.
