POLITICAL EXPERT: CHARGE FILED AGAINST OSKANIAN IS A STEP DIRECTED AT PREVENTION OF HIS RUNNING FOR PRESIDENT

Stripping ex-foreign minister, member of Prosperous Armenia Party,
Vartan Oskanian, of immunity and his involvement in the case on money
laundering by Civilitas Foundation is a preventive step directed at
prevention of his running for president at the presidential election
2013 in Armenia, political expert, Ervand Bozoyan, said at today's
press-conference.
"It is obvious that Civilitas case is invented and is a result of
the election campaign that has been already started. It is strange
that the case was started just after refusal of the PAP to join the
ruling coalition. It is also strange that the Huntsmans family has
no pretension to Oskanian although Prosecutor General Agvan Hovsepyan
has been trying to protect its rights", - Bozoyan said. He also added
that if the Republican Party of Armenia was trying to remove Oskanian
like a candidate for president, at present the situation changed and
after this persecution the sympathy of the people towards Oskanian
and the PAP has grown.
He thinks that this case will negatively affect the world image of the
country, as accusation of ex-foreign minister for money laundering,
casts doubt upon democracy in Armenia. He said that after Ramil
Safarov's pardoning, international structures said about lawlessness
in Azerbaijan and Armenia got a chance to raise its rating and get
various dividends. But after Oskanyan's case the authorities of
Armenia put Azerbaijan and Armenia at one and the same level.
