"THE ATTORNEY'S OFFICE MUST HAVE SUFFICIENT EVIDENCE, OTHERWISE, THEY WILL LOSE THIS," MARGARIT YESAYAN SAYS

"A rather heated and interesting discussion on withdrawing Vartan
Oskanian's immunity is taking place in the National Assembly. The
heat and the logic of discussions are natural, because in the end,
everyone wants to understand who is right. However, one should prove
that 'who is right?' neither with speeches, nor questions and
discussions, nor reminding about some things from the past or saying
things about the present or the future. One should that he is right and
correct in legal proceedings," Margarit Yesayan, a Republican Party of
Armenia (RPA) MP, said during a conversation with www.aravot.am. In her
words, "I hope and want to be hopeful that Vartan Oskanian will prove
his innocence in a legal proceeding. I think that the application
filed by the Attorney General aims at that very thing, because if
the application is passed and Mr. Oskanian's immunity is withdrawn,
it doesn't mean at all that Mr. Oskanian will be arrested. It is
a completely different story and the attorney's office must file
another application."
When asked whether she agreed with the assessment of Naira Zohrabyan,
the secretary of the Prosperous Armenia Party (PAP) parliamentary
group, that they had witnessed such an attitude regularly after their
last congress, Margarit Yesayan said, "No, I don't agree, because
I have always been against politicizing legal issues. If it is said
today that the issue is politicized, I myself don't see it. We saw
in the hall today that there is a problem, nonetheless. It is not
that everything is fine and the attorney's office suddenly files an
application. I repeat once again I am hopeful that Mr. Oskanian will
prove that he is innocent in a legal proceeding. I just want it to be
so. I think that first of all, the attorney's office and the legal
system have things to do here. If they appear before the National
Assembly with such an accusation, they must have sufficient evidence
to do so. Otherwise they will lose this."
