TRADE TURNOVER BETWEEN ARMENIA AND ITALY ALMOST DOUBLED

YEREVAN, OCTOBER 3, ARMENPRESS: Armenian Ministry of Economy Tigran
Davtyan was in a visit to Rome on September 27-28. In the first day
Davtyan had a meeting with Italian Minister of Economic Development
Passera and Foreign Trade Agency head Monti .
As Armenian Foreign Affair Minister informed Armenpress, in the course
of the launched meeting Minister presented the current business
climate prevailing in Armenia and the consecutive steps taken by
Armenian Government aimed at encouraging foreign investment.
In this context Minister Davtyan highlighted the successful activities
of Italian companies operating in Armenia .Minister especially
dwelled on already established and future scheduled free economic
zones stating the presence of the letters would make Armenia more
attractive to the investors. Tigran Davtyan also touched upon the
negotiation procedure over the signing of Free Trade agreement between
EU and Armenia stating the importance of the signing for Armenian part
.Minister noted in case of signing the agreement Armenia would occur
in extremely favorable position taking into account the existence of
similar agreement with CIS countries.
Both sides noted the trade turnover between Armenia and Italy has
increased by 40% in 2011: in the course of the current year six months
it has almost doubled, yet the current stage of trade turnover between
two states is not sufficient , as economic cooperation between two
countries has much greater potential.
Minister Davtyan highlighted the establishment of Armenian-Italian
intergovernmental commission as a grave impetus for spurring
Armenian-Italian economic relations.The interlocutors noted with
satisfaction the growth of remarks given to Armenia by reputable
international rating agencies.
