Possible Turkish-Syrian conflict will sooner or later affect Armenia,
Ruben Hakobyan, Head of Heritage Party faction, said in the parliament,
Friday.
Hakobyan said that despite such dramatic processes in a region so
close to Armenia, the Armenian political forces and authorities fail
to take adequate measures to upgrade security of the country. Instead,
they are engaged in peanuts politics. They hand over deputies to the
law-enforcement agencies.
"Actually, Turkey got carte-blanche to interfere with the domestic
affairs of Syria due to a provocation on the border. It bears many
threats also for our compatriots in Syria. In case of a military attack
on Iran, the region will occur in chaos. The Armenian government
should take effective measures to upgrade its immunity, because the
above incidents will sooner and later affect Armenia," he said.
Over the last few days the tension on the Syrian-Turkish border has
aggravated as armed clashes between government forces and illegal
armed groups controlling a number of check points have become more
frequent. On 3 October, 2 women and 3 children were killed and 10
people were injured in an artillery shell explosion in a Turkish
village of Akchakal. Later in the day, the Turkish artillery shelled
a number of targets in the territory of Syria. NATO demanded Syria
to stop provocations. On October 4 Turkish Parliament provided
extraordinary powers to the Government. Thus, it can make air attacks
and land operations in Syria within a year without participation of
the Aram states or NATO partners.
