"I don't think that Europe is eager to protect the interests of
Vardan Oskanyan," Galust Sahakyan, Head of the ruling Republican
Party faction in the Parliament, Vice Chairman of RPA, said in the
parliament when commenting on distribution of documents in PACE saying
that the criminal case against Oskanyan has no legal ground and it
politically motivated.
Sahakyan is sure that the case is exclusively legal and the Armenian
public will make sure of that shortly.
"In the succession of time the passions will fade away. As regards
distribution of documents at PACE, I cannot welcome such step. There
were many cases in the history of our country when domestic political
problems were settled with help of external forces. It is inadmissible
for me," he said. To recall, Vardan Oskanyan was deprived of deputy
immunity on October 2. Prosecutor General Hovsepyan appealed to the
Parliament for a permission to involve Vartan Oskanian as an accused
party in the money laundering case against Civilitas Foundation. The
appeal implies deprivation of deputy immunity, but not arrest.
Prosperous Armenia Party considers the given case as politically
motivated and pursuing the goal to exert pressure on the Party on
the threshold of presidential election.
