YEREVAN, OCTOBER 5, ARMENPRESS: Hovik Abrahamyan, President of
Armenian National Assembly, hosted the `Switzerland-Armenia"
Parliamentary Friendship Group co-chairmen Ueli Leuenberger and
Dominique de Buman from Swiss Lower House of Parliament on October 5.
As Armenpress was informed from Armenian NA press and informational
department, greeting the guests in NA , Hovik Abrahamyan noted that
Armenia highly evaluated the relations with Switzerland and it further
development in the framework of foreign policy. According to National
Assembly President high leveled relations have been formed between
Armenia and Switzerland in recent years, there is trustful and
understanding atmosphere.
Hovik Abrahamyan has noted that one of its conducive factors is the
interparliamentary relations and mutual visits which give opportunity
expand the already established effective cooperation.
Head of Armenian Parliament expressed his gratitude to the
parliamentarian delegation for its visit to NKR.
Dominique de Buman has highlighted that Armenia-Switzerland relations
have good traditions, mutual visits are on regular basis and that it
is not their first visit to Armenian National Assembly. According to
him, the realizations of all ideas, cultural initiatives and long-term
interests should primarily be expressed by the people and once chosen
by them. Referring to the Swiss parliamentary activity towards
Armenia, he noted the recognition of Armenian Genocide by Swiss
Parliament on December 16, 2003 as well as the establishment of Swiss
Embassy in Armenia. Dominique de Buman noted of crucial importance the
development of economic relations. He mentioned that the delegation
was deeply impressed by the visit to NKR, where it had an opportunity
to see, feel and learn the reality of NKR people's independence.
Highly appreciating the democratic processes n Armenia he expressed
his willing to share the practice of democracy system of Switzerland.
He called on Armenia-Switzerland friendly group to be more active to
contribute cultural and economical well-being.
Referring to the extradition of Ramil Safarov by Hungarian authorities
and his release by Ilham Aliyev Hovik Abrahamyan highlighted that
these actions are out of all ethical and legal standards. He also
added that it was not appropriate for the member country of European
Union to take such a step, knowing in advance that the murderer would
be released in his country. `This is a threat for European values'
noted Hovik Abrahamyan.
When referring to Armenia-Turkey relations the head of the parliament
reminded that Zurich protocols require ratification by the
parliaments. However, once again Turkey broke its word.
Switzerland-Armenia Parliamentary Friendship Group co-chairman Ueli
Leunberger noted that the extradition of Safarov was unacceptable.
Issues of bilateral interest have been discussed during the meeting.
