The Armenian ambassador Arman Navasardyan considers suspending
diplomatic relations with Hungary the right step on Armenia's part.
On the other hand, he does not welcome further developments.
"The statements by Armenia's president can be considered tantamount
to suspending diplomatic relations, my attitude to subsequent measures
is quite different. Emotional behavior cannot help," Navasardyan told
journalists on Monday.
The people of Hungary must be differentiated from the country's
authorities. "We should understand that Hungary is not its present
government. We had a great common past," the diplomat said.
>From a purely diplomatic aspect of the issue, Navasardyan noted that
Armenia made a second mistake. "The first mistake was when Armenian
diplomats failed to understand how the murderer was released. The
second mistake was an unconventional approach to the event,"
Navasardyan said.
Since it is unclear if is Hungary or Azerbaijan that is the deceiver,
the Armenian diplomat calls for more a more realistic policy.
"Hungary does exit - good or bad. So we need an unconventional
approach. For example, through rapprochement with Hungary coming out
against Azerbaijan," Navasardyan said.
