Armenian MP Tachat Vardapetyan and expert on Georgian Armenian
issues Haykazun Alvrtsyan described the statement of Georgian Dream
opposition bloc leader Bidzina Ivanishvili as a result of his political
inexperience.
"This person is not a political personality, he entered into
politics, using all his sources. It was the first manifestation of his
inexperience. He does not have a real program to enter into politics
and start working," Alvrtsyan said.
Speaking to The New Times, Ivanishvili said, "We Georgians are so
strange. We are very linked to our land. It is our feature. For
instance many Armenians are living in Georgia. And I am surprised
their homeland is so close but they live here. It is strange for us.
Returning home, to homeland is in Georgians genes."
After the interview Ivanishvili posted a statement on his Facebook
wall giving explanations over the interview.
Haykazun Alvrtsyan said many think Ivanishvili's statement was not
a result of inexperience but was a declaration of his policy.
"Many are saying that with it he has declared about his policy.
National issue is a serious issue in case when many peoples are living
in a small country. They are concerned with the existence of other
nations in their country. But there are factors under the influence
of which they should come into terms with ethnic minorities, the
majority of who are Armenians. It is not accidental that they are
always speaking about Armenians as they know quite well what the
Armenian element means to them, in negative sense," he said.
Tachat Vardapetyan stressed that for him Ivanishvili's statement was
rather strange but the followed explanation loosened the created
tension. "I do not want to sound pessimistic but a lot of things
are connected with the relations between the two countries. The time
will show but they should work toward improvement of relations and
solution of Javakhq issue," he said.
Haykazun Alvrtsyan said the explanation for him includes more
dangerous elements than the initial one as in the explanation it
appears that Georgians cannot live outside of their country while
the Armenians are successful businessmen and are indifferent to their
homeland. Alvrtsyan said Bidzina Ivanishvili seems not to differ from
his predecessors much.
