YEREVAN.- Certain violations were registered in Georgia's Javakhk
during the October 1 parliamentary elections, Republican MP Shirak
Torosyan said.
Torosyan, a native of Javakhk, said the locals do not describe
parliamentary elections as free and fair. The Georgian Dream bloc
was very active in the region but the authorities exerted constant
pressure on the voters. One of the political activists Melik Raisyan
was deprived of an opportunity to head the opposition headquarters
in Javakhk, Torosyan told reporters on Tuesday.
He also called optimistic Bidzina Ivanishvili's statements regarding
ethnic minorities.
"One of his ideas was to establish Armenian-Georgian University,"
he added.
The election results in Armenian-populated Javakhk differ greatly
from other regions. Saakashvili-led United National Movement also
received many votes in Azerbaijani-populated regions.
