YEREVAN. - "First and foremost, it is the West which is not interested
in the establishment of strong and true democratic institutions
in our country [Armenia]. In reality, the West is not developing
democratic institutions in Armenia, but rather it uses that tool to
serve its political interests in the region. Let's not forget the
efforts the very same USA exerted to disunite the [opposition bloc,
Armenian National Congress] ANC," Armenian National Assembly's ANC
Faction MP [and Social-Democratic Hnchakyan Party (SDHP) Chairwoman]
Lyudmila Sargsyan told 168 Zham daily.
"She added: 'The formula is very simple: The West tolerates and even
backs this [ruling] regime [in Armenia] because they have enormous
secret and provoking information on the influential members of the
regime, and this enables them to extort the decisions they want in
matters relating to Armenian-Turkish relations, or, by way of the
international corporations they finance and contrary to Armenia's
national interests, to take possession of our country's natural
resources,'" 168 Zham writes.
