Statement of the Civilitas Foundation
Law enforcement authorities in Armenia have begun to earnestly
"protect" the interests of Civilitas and its staff. In recent days,
certain individuals have followed our staff members with an 'excessive
interest and concern,' when they are collecting signatures against
political persecution in the street. Those individuals do not even
hesitate to follow our staff members all the way to their homes.
Such actions are unacceptable for us. They do not correspond with
the responsibilities of any government agency. These methods will be
ineffective as were the gossips published in some media and pressures
of the tax inspections aimed at weakening the resolve of our staff.
Our work has always been and continues to be maximally transparent and
public and it would better if law enforcement and security agencies
were concerned with the real issues concerning state security.
