YEREVAN. - There is no laboratory in Armenia with international
accreditation, Republic Union of Employers Chairman Gagik Makaryan
said during a press conference on Wednesday.
In his words, such situation complicates the certification of
exporters. "Not all laboratories are able to conduct the complete
gamma of analyses that are necessary for exporting. In addition,
not everyone is informed about the kinds of analyses the product
needs to go through to be accepted in EU," Makaryan noted.
The Food Safety Service laboratory is undergoing the International
Certification process, whereas the Standards Institute laboratory
is certifying export wine, but solely as a provisional body. "They
selected this laboratory during the Armenia-EU talks, but only
temporarily," Gagik Makaryan clarified.
