ITALIAN PARLIAMENT TO DRAFT A BILL OFFICIALLY CONSIDERING APRIL 24 AS ARMENIAN GENOCIDE COMMEMORATION DAY

YEREVAN, OCTOBER 12, ARMENPRESS: Hovik Abrahamyan, the President
of Armenian National Assembly, hosted the members of Italy-Armenia
Parliamentary Friendship Group from the Italian Chamber of Deputies
and the Senate of the Republic. They were presenting the main fractions
operating in the Parliament. As Armenpress was informed from NA press
and informational department, Armenian NA president greeted the guests
and highly evaluated their visit to Armenia noting that it was the
first one on the level of friendship groups. He assured that it would
be a new impetus for the development of Armenian-Italian relations
and especially the interparliamentary ones.
Referring to the Armenian-Italian cooperation Hovik Abrahamyan has
noted that there are great prospects for the development of political,
economic and cultural cooperation. He believes that it is important to
use all the possible formats to develop the interparliamentary relation
between Armenia and Italy. The head of Italy-Armenia Parliamentary
Friendship Group Sandra Jampa expressed her gratitude for the
invitation to visit Armenia and highly evaluated such meeting for
the development of interparliamentary and intergovernmental relations.
Mrs. Jampa highly evaluated the investment of Armenian nation in the
European, especially in Italian culture, science, economy and other
spheres. According to her, Armenians have left their paths in the
European culture and economy for centuries. "Now its time for Europe
to pay back for your investments" noted Italian deputy. Sandra Jampa
has informed that Italian Parliament has a new bill according to
which April 24 will be officially considered as Armenian Genocide
Commemoration Day.
During the meeting interlocutors referred to regional issues,
Armenian-Turkish relations and NKR settlement issue. NA President has
mentioned that Azerbaijani atmosphere which is full of hated toward
Armenians is a reasonable and sufficient reason for international
community to acknowledge that Artaskh can never be a part of such
country, which is proclaiming Safarov's type as a hero, and with this
action Azerbaijan once again threatens the fragile regional security,
violate the human rights guaranteed by international instruments and
present its policy which is leading the peaceful negotiations over
NKR settlement issue to the deadlock.
"Baku has turned the hatred towards Armenians to a state propaganda,
bringing it to a dangerous level. It's not only our valuation.
International institutions have also set an alarm. We remain faithful
to a peaceful settlement of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict" stressed
Hovik Abrahamyan.
NA President thanked Italian Deputies for refusing the bill which
was suggested by Azerbaijan over NKR issue. Sandra Jampa noted that
Azerbaijani bill was refused by the Italian Parliament because it
didn't match to the Italian position over this issue. Other issues
were also discussed during the meeting.
