Syria-bound Armenian cargo plane forced to land in east Turkey city

ANKARA, Oct. 15 (Xinhua) -- Turkish officials are searching a
Syria-bound Armenian cargo plane on Monday after forcing it to land at
an airport in the eastern city of Erzurum, Turkish officials told
    Xinhua.

The Armenian plane was on its way to Syria's Aleppo for humanitarian
cargo aid and forced to land in the province of Erzurum for a security
check, according to the Turkish Foreign Ministry.

As Armenian authorities asked for safe conduct for a civilian plane
flying over Turkish airspace, Ankara gave the permission providing a
technical grounding control, a Turkish official told Xinhua.

The tensions between Turkey and Syria have hit a new high on Wednesday
when the Turkish government forcefully grounded a Syrian civilian
plane, which was en route from Moscow to Damascus, under the pretext
that the plane carried "non-civilian cargo."

Russia said the plane was carrying spare radar parts, while Syria
denounced Turkey's move as air piracy.

On Saturday, Turkey's Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu warned that
Turkey would retaliate again if its border with Syria was violated
again and if Turkey's national security was in danger.

After meeting with his German counterpart Guido Westerwelle, Davutoglu
said that Turkey has been taking every kind of measure on its borders.
