ECOLUR: ENVIRONMENTALISTS DEMAND OFFICIALS REVIEW THE TERMS AND LOCATIONS OF SMALL HYDROPOWER PLANTS

"Khosrov Forest", "Trchkan" and Teghout Support civic initiatives
demand from the Armenian Government to set up a new, interdepartmental
working group, by Prime Minister Tigran Sargsyan to examine the sphere
of small hydropower plants. Environmentalists want to be included in
the assessment of where to place the plants.
The interdepartmental working group, activists say, should at least
include specialists from Nature Protection, Agriculture, Economy,
Territorial Administration, Energy and Natural Resources ministries,
as well as NGO representatives.
The environmentalists also demand to initiate administrative measures
within one week to stop the construction of SHPs having already been
issued permits prior to have properly been assessed.
