OSCE AND EU CONTINUE PROJECT TO PROMOTE DEMOCRATIC ELECTIONS IN ARMENIA IN 2013

The interim results of a joint project of the European Union and OSCE
aimed at supporting democratic general elections in Armenia in 2012
and 2013 will be presented on 22 October.
Ambassador Andrey Sorokin, the Head of the OSCE Office in Yerevan, and
Ambassador Traian Hristea, the Head of EU Delegation to Armenia, will
present interim results of the project aimed at improving efficiency
of election administration and transparency of the electoral processes
in line with international standards. The first part of the project
covered parliamentary elections in 2012, whereas the second one will
focus on support for the conduct of the presidential elections of 2013.
Results of such activities as training and capacity-building of
election and law-enforcement officials, as well as journalists,
raising public awareness, supporting domestic observers, and media
monitoring will be presented.
The overall budget of the elections project in Armeniais 1.7 million
Euro. It is implemented by the OSCE Office in Yerevan and financed
by the European Union.
