BEIRUT. - The situation in Beirut has relatively improved after
Sunday incidents, Editor-in-Chief Shahan Kandaharian of Lebanon's
Aztag Armenian daily told Armenian News-NEWS.am.
The situation is relatively calm as of Monday morning, only several
roads in the south are being closed occasionally.
Kandaharian said the territory near the government building is under
tight control of law enforcers.
"People came to the offices, the situation is getting normalized,"
he said adding that at the same time tension remains. Political
statements will be obviously made during the day as the opposition
continues demanding government's resignation, he added.
As reported earlier, a crowd of protesters tried to storm the
government's building in Beirut on Sunday. They managed to break
through police cordon. Demonstrators were demanding resignation
of Premier following the funeral of the high ranking intelligence
official Wissam al-Hassan who was killed in a Friday blast. The
government forces were impelled to open fire and use tear gas to stop
protesters. Media reported shots were heard at night.
