ARMENIAN WOMEN SUBJECTED TO PHYSICAL, SEXUAL, PSYCHOLOGICAL AND ECONOMIC VIOLENCE

YEREVAN.- Armenian women are being subjected to physical, sexual,
psychological and economic violence.
During nine months of 2012 the legal department of Women's Rights
Center received 700 calls, center's lawyer Astghik Karapetyan said
during a conference held in Yerevan.
Nearly 300 women visited the center and later 129 out of them filed
a lawsuit, while 30-40 women filed for divorce.
She said women receive psychological and legal assistance, learn
about their rights which prevents future acts of violence.
"Most of the women file a complaint in police before applying to
our center. In case they want to keep secret, we guarantee privacy,"
she added.
