The Armenian diplomacy must stop being defensive and must demand
recognition of Nagorno-Karabakh's independence, former Foreign Minister
of Armenia Vartan Oskanian says in a Facebook comment.
He believes that in response to the release of Ramil Safarov and
the growing Azeri aggressiveness on the border, Armenia and Nagorno-
Karabakh must sign an agreement guaranteeing the latter's security.
The agreement must be signed by the presidents, which will be a signal
for Azerbaijan that Armenia is taking the first steps to recognize
Nagorno- Karabakh's sovereignty.
Oskanian suggests withdrawing the Armenian-Turkish protocols from
the Armenian Parliament in response to Turkey's inaction.
He wonders at the passivity of Armenia's Foreign Ministry and points
out that while the Azeris were negotiating with the Hungarians on
Safarov's release, Armenian FM Edward Nalbandyan was paying a visit
to New Zealand.
Oskanian believes that the Armenian diplomacy should have turned the
release of Safarov to its advantage but has done nothing to this end
so far.
