Speaking in Parliament, Zaruhi Postanjyan, a Heritage parliamentary
group member, called on Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan to shut
down the Yerevan-Center penitentiary.
It is perceived as a "KGB basement" by society, she added.
According to Mrs Postanjyan, Armenia's president, who was Chief of
Armenia's National Security Service, can easily order the shutdown of
"the fear-inspiring premises."
"I am calling on Armenia's leader to rid Armenia of this structure,
which is reminiscent of a tyrannical state, and open a history museum
in the premises, which would tell about the crimes committed by the
KGB and Armenia's National Security Service, as well as about the
victims that spend their days there," Postanjyan said.
