The trains of the South Caucasus Railway (SCR) keep running via the
Georgian Railway despite the Georgian railwaymen's plans to go on
a strike on October 24. They demand higher wages and better work
conditions, SCR CJSC Spokesperson Vahe Davtyan told ArmInfo.
"By our data, it is the locomotive drivers that plan a strike, not the
entire infrastructure of the Georgian Railway," the spokesperson said.
In compliance with the agreement with the Georgian Railway, Armenia
has a right to use the infrastructure of the Georgian Railway.
"No problems with freight activity or passenger traffic have been
reported yet," Vahe Davtyan said. Armenia is connected to the world
trough the only operating railway via the territory of Georgia. The
Georgian railwaymen plan a strike on October 24. Earlier, the employees
of the company told media that the minimal salary of railwaymen in
Georgia is 270 laries (nearly 160 dollars).
