The collapse of the building in Khanjyan Street is the first but not
the last case, Chairman of the Union of Consumers' Rights Protection
Armen Poghosyan told ArmInfo.
"Total lawlessness rules in the Armenian Ministry of Urban Development,
and we face such lawlessness and outrage at every turn.
The collapse of the building is an obvious violation of the
construction standards. Unfortunately, if anyone in our country
wants to build anything, he easily neglects the existing standards
and laws and does not obey them. Moreover, these people not only fail
to observe the existing laws, but also try to dictate and impose the
laws that are profitable to them", the expert said.
In the meantime, Poghosyan said with indignation that Armenia has
a construction inspectorate, which, in fact, does not carry out
its obligations.
To note, a new building in Khanjyan Street in the center of Yerevan
collapsed Oct 25, injuring 11 people. 9 were taken to hospital.
