The civil initiatives "Save Teghout", "Trchkan", "Khosrov Reserve" and
"Jermuk Will Never Become a Mine" have released a statement demanding
that the Prosecutor General and Special Investigative Service should
bring the Armenian Nature Protection Ministry employees and Minister
Aram Haroutyunyan to criminal responsibility.
The authors of the statement point out that over the past few years
problems have been observed almost in all spheres: development of ore
mining industry, construction of small hydropower plants, protection
of Lake Sevan and other water bodies. The activists say in most cases
the Ministry learns all the problems from the environmentalists,
civil initiatives and the mass media. In the meantime, according to
the regulations of the Nature Protection Ministry, the minister is
responsible for the situation ruling in his sphere. "The Ministry
and the Environmental Inspectorate fail to carry out their functions
and obligations and do not master the situation. This allows us to
state that they display criminal negligence and/or try to conceal
the situation", the document says.
In this context, the activists call on the Prosecutor General
and Special Investigative Service to bring the Armenian Nature
Protection Ministry employees and Minister Aram Haroutyunyan to
criminal responsibility for the abuse and criminal idleness.
