The Legislative Council of Australia's largest state of New South
Wales adopted a resolution recognizing the Republic of Nagorno Karabakh
and the right to self-determination of its Armenian people.
Appreciating the fact, President of the "European Integration" NGO
Karen Bekaryan said "the world has taken the path of recognition of
the priority of the right of peoples to self-determination.
Following Safarov's release and glorification, many were insisting
Armenia had to suspend the talks with Azerbaijan. "Armenia chose to
continue the negotiations, thus dissipating Azerbaijan's dreams of
frustrating the peace process," the analyst said.
The negotiations continue, but it's clear they cannot continue the
same way. According to Karen Bekaryan, Armenia's demands have changed:
investigation mechanisms, withdrawal of snipers and stronger security
guarantees.
"The Armenian side should insist that the OSCE or at least the
mediators must have an office in Stepanakert to have first-hand
information about the situation," President of the "European
Integration" NGO said.
The Armenian and Azerbaijani Foreign Ministers are scheduled to meet
in Parison October 27. Karen Bekaryan considers that the possibility
of Sargsyan-Aliyev meeting will also be one the agenda.
