Armenian Foreign Minister Edward Nalbandian (R) meeting with President
of the Legislative Assembly of Costa Rica Victor Emilio Granados Calvo
Armenian Foreign Minister Edward Nalbandian welcomed the decision
by Australia's largest state to recognize Nagorno-Karabakh, as he
continued his Central American tour on Thursday.
Earlier that day the Legislative Council of the New South Wales
Parliament adopted a resolution recognizing Nagorno-Karabakh and the
right to self-determination of its Armenian people from Azerbaijan.
During a meeting with the Costa-Rican parliament speaker in capital San
Jose Nalbandian also accused Azerbaijan of torpedoing international
efforts on finding a peaceful solution to the protracted conflict in
the South Caucasus.
"The more Azerbaijan hampers the mediators' efforts trying to
preserve the status-quo, the more decisions like the one taken by the
Legislative Council of Australia's largest State New South Wales on the
recognition of the Nagorno-Karabakh Republic will be made," he said.
"Such decisions will clear a way for the international recognition
of Nagorno-Karabakh," the Armenian minister added.
The foreign ministers of Armenia and Azerbaijan are due to hold a
meeting with the OSCE Minsk Group co-chairs in Paris, France, on
October 27.
