While visiting Yerevan on October 18, Secretary General of the UN
World Tourism Organization Taleb D. Rifai stated that Armenia has
great potential to develop its tourism sector. He advised Armenia to
further develop its tourist services and to try to facilitate tourism
development in the country despite the ongoing conflict between Armenia
and Azerbaijan. Armenia signed an agreement with UNWTO on global code
of ethics for tourism. The country attracts 800,000 annually but most
are representatives of the Armenian Diaspora who want to see their
ancestral homeland.
