YEREVAN. - It is the calm before the storm in today's politics of
Armenia, opposition bloc Armenian National Congress (ANC) MP and
Social-Democratic Hnchakyan Party (SDHP) Chairwoman Lyudmila Sargsyan
said during a press conference on Monday.
In her view, the current situation that is created in the lead-up to
next year's presidential elections is somewhat exclusive because the
rigged elections have disappointed the body politic and, also, in
terms of a quest for an alternative. "But I believe the people will
make their remark. The authorities think there is no alternative to
[President] Serzh Sargsyan, but this is too much self-confidence,"
Lyudmila Sargsyan stated.
She added that the expected presidential nominations will show that
Serzh Sargsyan himself could become an alternative and vie solely for
the second or third spot. "We have a weak government that does not
have the people's confidence, and it does not have the solution for
the questions expected [to be raised] by the people," the ANC MP noted.
