YEREVAN, AUGUST 30, ARMENPRESS: France's President Francois Hollande
hosted country's Ex- Minister of Justice Robert Badinter. Armenpress
reports that Nouvelles d'Armenie does not exclude that interlocutors
may have discussed the issue of criminalizing Armenian Genocide
denial as well. Armenian press being published in France reminds that
Armenian community has great expectations from the Socialist Party
concerning the issue of adoption of the draft criminalizing Armenian
Genocide denial.
It is planned to have the first meeting of Armenian community with
President of France Francois Hollande at the beginning of autumn
during which only one issue is going to be discussed- the development
of the draft criminalizing Armenian Genocide denial.
Hollande has already reaffirmed promises given in his election period.
The draft criminalizing genocides' denial was accepted by the
National Assembly of the country on December 22, 2011. The bill
was approved on January 23 , 2012 by Senate of France. Although,
The French Constitutional Council declared unconstitutional the bill
criminalizing the Armenian Genocide denial passed by the National
Assembly and the Senate.
After approving aforecited bill, Armenian Genocide Denial on the
territory of France would have been defined a year of imprisonment
or a fine of 45 thousand euros.
