CHILDREN'S PREPARATION FOR SCHOOL COSTS AMD 30 TO 40.000 ON AVERAGE

Parents of schoolchildren have already done the last part of shopping
to be ready for September 1. In one of stationery fairs of Stepanakert
we met an inhabitant of Nerqin Horatagh village, Martakert region,
Zhirayr Martirosyan who was buying school accessories together with
his son. In his interview to Karabakh-open.info he noted that in his
choice of stationery and clothes for school he mainly prefers goods
of average prices.
"In the year before last I bought a schoolbag of AMD 11.000 for my son
and we were quite lucky as it turned to be of high quality and served
for about 1 and a half year. This year we bought a cheaper one. AMD
40-50.000 in average is needed for a child, this year I have three
schoolchildren," Zh. Martirosyan says.
According to him as compared to the previous year only clothes and
shoes got more expensive.
"However, we are to properly prepare our children for school. There
is no job in the village, the crop is not so rich as well, cattle
breeding is our only hope. Every year we sell two sheep to meet our
requirements," he says.
Salesgirl of one of the fairs at Vazgen Sargsyan street Ilona states
that as compared with the previous years parents are more passive in
their shopping activities.
"3 or 4 years ago parents preferred to buy more expensive school
accessories than they do now," the salesgirl says.
Gayane Hayrapetyan, a citizen of Stepanakert, says that she buys her
children's clothes for school mainly from Yerevan.
"In Yerevan it is possible to buy high quality goods at moderate
prices. This year for my first grade daughter I spent AMD 30-35.000.
Taking into account the fact that the government allocates AMD
20.000, a schoolbag and some stationery accessories to first-form
schoolchildren I think, if there is a will, the mentioned amount of
money will fully suffice," Gayane notes and adds that the prices can
hardly be compared with those of the previous year.
Seller of another fair in Stepanakert Marine explains that if the
customer arrives by foreign expensive cars they offer him expensive
goods. "The greater part of customers prefer goods of average prices.
The prices on our schoolbags differ from 3000 to 8000 drams," she says.
There are also parents who prefer not to buy but to order clothes
at the tailor's. "Of course, prices in both cases do not greatly
differ, yet in case of ordering at the tailor's the customer is sure
both of the quality and the style of the clothes," mother of three
schoolchildren Rouzanna confesses.
P.S. Of course, the mentioned amount of money will suffice to buy
cheaper clothes, shoes and school accessories and that is for junior
schoolchildren, yet for senior learners this sum of money is not
sufficient.
