Members of a district election commission in Georgia's
Armenian-populated town, Akhalkalaki, have beaten their chairperson
who was reported to be an ethnic Armenia.
Citing the commission's sources, the Georgian news website Gruzia
Online says that the chairperson, Hasmik Marangozyan, was beaten inside
the commission's building by three members, Medea Neparidze, Nino
Pkhakadze aad Bezhan Gunava. The latter is said to be a representative
of the Georgian Dream party (led by the billionaire politician,
Bidzina Ivanishvili).
The country's Central Election Commission has criticized the incident,
calling upon the commission's members to demonstrate restraint and
mutual respect.
