WASHINGTON. - The Azerbaijani government should make efforts for
reconciliation and peace in proportion to the public praise and awards,
with which Safarov was encouraged, US expert Jorge Benitez told Turan
agency commenting on granting pardon to Safarov, who has murdered
the Armenian lieutenant.
According to him, not only the West but the whole world community
will speak up, as a criminal sentenced for a murder is granted a
pardon in such a provocative way.
"It will be hard for Azerbaijan and Armenia to settle their conflict
and it will take much time and efforts. The Azerbaijani government
should make efforts for reconciliation and peace in proportion to the
public praise and awards, with which Safarov was encouraged," he said.
Asked how likely the war is to resume, Benitez said that the war
resumption was real and the Safarov case made it more dangerous.
