A nonpartisan candidate has won in local elections in Narek community
in Armenia's Ararat marz, leaving his Republican contender behind
with 31 votes.
Two candidates were running for the post - Roland Susunyan, incumbent
village headman, a member of the Republican Party of Armenia (HHK)
and Garush Hakobyan, Director of HabGagShin CSJC.
Hakobyan received 361 votes while Susunyan - 330 votes, with 700 of
the 917 eligible voters casting ballots at the polls. Nine ballots
were considered invalid.
No irregularities and unusual incidents were recorded during the vote.
"We live in the same village and know each other well enough. There
is no tension or hostility between us," Garush Hakobyan told A1+
before the vote.
The choice was especially difficult for Knarik Nabandyan, Chairperson
of the Divisional Election Committee: Roland Susunyan is her husband
and Garush Hakobyan - her uncle.
After the ballots were counted, everyone went to celebrate Hakobyan's
victory.
