HEAD OF NAGORNO-KARABAKH DEPARTMENT OF TOURISM: STATEMENT OF AZERBAIJANI MINISTER OF CULTURE AND TOURISM IS SIMPLE NONSENSE

"Azerbaijani Minister of Culture and Tourism Abulfaz Garayev's
statement that the tourists visiting Karabakh are neither registered
nor provided with security is simple nonsense", Sergey Shahverdyan,
Head of the Department of Tourism under the NKR Government, said
to ArmInfo when commenting on the statement Garayev made at the
joint press conference with Secretary General of the World Tourism
Organization Taleb Rifai.
Shahverdyan said that since 1995, when Karabakh started consistently
developing its tourism sphere, not a single foreign citizen has
suffered; nor has any offense against the foreign citizens' property
been registered. "The security of the tourists visiting the NKR is
ensured in line with the NKR legislation and international standards",
he said.
He added that the NKR continues successfully attending all
the international tourism exhibitions. "Garayev's statement,
first and foremost, aims to hinder the strengthening image of the
Nagorno-Karabakh Republic in the international tourism market. The
tourism growth rates in the NKR exceed 40%, and this demonstrates
that our republic occupies firm positions in the international tourism
market", he said.
