A vice speaker of Armenia's National Assembly, Edward Sharmazanov,
has praised the Lithuanian lawmakers' condemnatory statement against
Azerbaijan's decision to pardon an ax-killer.
In a telephone conversation with Algis Kasheta, a co-chairman of
the Lithuanian-Armenian parliamentary friendship group, Sharmazanov
said that the National Assembly joins the world community commited
to democratic and universal values.
In the statement addressed to the world countries, several members of
the Lithuanian parliament expressed their deep concerns in connection
with Azerbaijan's decision to pardon Ramil Safarov who was sentenced
to life in prison by a Budapest City Court in 2006 for the brutal
murder of Armenian officer Gurgen Margaryan.
The group said that the decision, which conflicts with international
norms, may contribute to the recurrence of similar crimes, frustrating
the peace efforts between Armenia and Azerbaijan over Nagorno-Karabakh.
