    Cracks observed near Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan pipeline

    Cracks are being observed in the territories trough Azerbaijan's Salyan and
    Hajigabul regions through which in the area of Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan pipeline
    passes.

    The statement came from the executive chief of the Institute of Geology
    Department of geodynamics and seismology under Azerbaijan National Academy
    of Science (ANAS) Gulam Babayev, APA reports.

    According to him, wide radiometric, gravimetric, GPS researches and seismic
    monitoring are being conducted in the area. But deep seismic researches and
    deep seismic probation should be conducted for the detailed research of
    ongoing process: `I will not elaborate the issue. The results of the
    researches can be announced only after BP Company approves the fact. I
    should say that we have very interesting results. According to preliminary
    results, I can say that the current information differs from priors. It is
    new information.'

    Babayev said that there are potential dangerous quake grounds through the
    Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan pipeline's territory: `We have composed quake
    catalogues on it. Even the catalogue of mud volcanoes is being composed,
    because there are many volcanoes in Absheron peninsula. We also think that
    mud volcanoes in Sangachal can impact to this area. Wide researches are
    being conducted on it.'
