YEREVAN. - Iran must offer Armenia something in return for deepening
cooperation, Regional Studies Center Director, political analyst
Richard Giragosian stated during a press conference on Tuesday,
commenting on the current phase of international talks on the Iranian
issue.
In his view, Armenia has a great potential to play a more tangible
role as a broker in these talks.
"Christian Armenia is Islamic Iran's sole neighboring country which
has stable relations with it. But we shouldn't forget that Iran itself
is interested in that brokerage. If it wishes to deepen its ties with
Armenia, it-and not [official] Yerevan-must make the corresponding
efforts. We must see what it offers in return.
This is the same in case of Turkey, too. Armenia should be open for
proposals, but let those who are interested make the first move,"
Giragosian added.
