YEREVAN, SEPTEMBER 18, ARMENPRESS: The Left Party of Germany
welcomes the position of the European Parliament, according to
which the recognition of the Armenian Genocide is considered to be a
precondition for Turkey~Rs European integration. This was reported
by Armenpress, quoting the official website of the Left Party of
Germany, which published the announcement of the President of the
German Parliament Martin Shultz, saying in particular that Turkey
should face the history.
The President of the German Parliament Martin Shultz stated about
it at the meeting with the Turkish State Minister and the Minister
for the EU Affairs and Chief Negotiator Egemen Bagis. They talked
about the official role of Turkey in Syria, visa issues and Turkey~Rs
possible membership in the European Union.
Martin Shultz and Egemen Bagis spoke also on the Armenian Genocide
issue, as well as the new bill initiated by the French Senate on the
Armenian Genocide.
Nevertheless at the press conference held at the European Parliament,
Bagis did not answer the question on the Armenian Genocide and his
comments and analysis made in Switzerland. He said that Switzerland
was not an EU member and ~SI will not spend a single second to speak
about issues, which do not concern the European Union~T.
Martin Shultz in his turn highlighted the clear position of the
European Parliament, according to which an appeal had been made since
2005 by the adopted decree that ~STurkey should recognize the Armenian
Genocide and it would be considered as a precondition to enter the
European Union~T.
In his website the German Left Party, besides this announcement,
published also an article about its own position welcoming the
announcement.
