Armenian authorities start exhaustive probe into fish products of four fisheries

YEREVAN, September 19. / ARKA /. Armenian food safety authorities have
started an exhaustive probe into fish products of four local fisheries
which were banned by Russia's Rosselkhoznadzor, the Federal Service
for Veterinary and Phytosanitary Surveillance, from selling their
products in the Russian Federation. Rosselkhoznadzor explained the ban
by coliform bacteria which were found in Armenian fish products.

The ban made the Association of Armenian Fisheries ask the Food Safety
Service of the Ministry of Agriculture to make an independent probe.
Babken Pipoyan a public affairs officer for the Food Safety Service
said today Rosselkhoznadzor found coliform bacteria in fish products
of four Armenian companies Akvatehavtomatka, Unifish, Dimitri and Gos
of 22 fisheries. He said before shipping their products to Russia
these companies had examined them and no harmful bacteria were found.

He said Food Safety Service's experts took samples of water and fish
from all four fisheries and besides, the inspectors the State Food
Safety Service are overseeing now the entire production process of
these companies. Pipoyan said the examination will be over in a week.

He said the results of the inspection will be sent to Rosselkhoznadzor
and if no coliform bacteria is found the Food safety Service will ask
the Russian agency to lift the ban that will come into force from
    September 27. -0-
