Armenia's Nuclear Power Plant has temporarily stopped the power
generation due to general repairs, implementation of security measures
and recharging.
According to the Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources, the
temporary suspension of energy production will last from September 15
until December 11.
A spokesperson for the Ministry, Lusine Harutyunyan, told Tert.am that
general repairs at the plant occur every four years. Her statement
came in response to the question whether there had previously been
temporary suspensions lasting more than 80 days.
`This, according to international standards, requires as much time as
we have now established. That's a compulsory international
requirement, so there's nothing strange about it,' she said.
Harutyunyan ruled out the possibility of energy shortage in Armenia,
noting that alternative energy resources will replace nuclear power in
the above period.
