ADB grants $250 million to upgrade road network in Armenia
The project will be undertaken in three phases. Phase I involves
improvements on 38km stretch of road between Yerevan and Ararat. The
road segment will be upgraded to a four-lane highway, which will
feature barriers, road lighting and pedestrian areas.
Phase II involves reconstruction of a 12km stretch of road between
Yerevan and Ashtarak. Work in this segment involves improvement to the
drainage, rebuilding of bridges and resurfacing of the road with
concrete. Both the phases I and II will together cost $70.4 million.
Phase III involves widening and reconstruction of a 42km stretch of
road between Ashtarak and Talin. The final phase is expected to cost
$179.6 million.
The project forms part of the North-South Road Corridor Investment
Program, which is likely to improve the Agarak-Kapan-Yerevan-Bavra
road, which runs south to north in Armenia.
