YEREVAN. - Armenia must be returned its tourism sector brand which
it was known for in the Soviet era, Russian Ambassador to Armenia
Vyacheslav Kovalenko said Thursday, during a press conference devoted
to the inaugural Armenian-Russian joint scientific and touristic
expedition.
In his words, Armenia could regain that brand for the sake of which
hundreds of thousands of tourists wanted to come to Armenia; this is
very important for economy and the country's development.
"In the Soviet years, Armenia and Georgia used to be places of
pilgrimage for tourists, in winter and in summer alike. All that
must be restored. But it is necessary to carry out great work to
recall all of Armenia's charm," the Ambassador noted, but added:
"You need to invest good money to get a good thing."
The Russian ambassador also said it is very important that the
aforesaid expedition is not only cognitive, but, also, it pursues
scientific objectives.
To note, the inaugural Armenian-Russian joint scientific and touristic
expedition will be held between September 30 and October 9.
