Yerevan/Mediamax/. The European Union Commissioner for Enlargement
and Neighborhood Policy Stefan Fule said in Yerevan today that the
civil society in Armenia should knock at the government's door and
the authorities in their turn should say "yes, welcome".
Fule said this during a seminar with the civil society representatives
in Yerevan today stressing that the goal of the EU delegation is to
contribute to the interactive dialogue between the civil society and
authorities, Mediamax reports.
Stefan Fule informed that during his visit, he is going to discuss
the schedule of the upcoming reforms with the government which will
bear an institutional character.
"I know that the reform process in Armenia doesn't proceed easily.
About 3000 NGOs operate in the country and the number is very
impressive but I am aware you are being labeled. Gaining significance
is a very serious challenge for us", said Stefan Fule calling on
voicing the citizens' opinions and contributing to their making a
conscious choice.
He told the civil society representatives that their potential is
unlimited. "We'll do our best within our financial and institutional
capacities to support your aspirations, develop your involvement in
the region, as it's important and may have significant results for
your citizens", he said.
The EU Commissioner noted that he will devote maximum time to
communication with civil society representatives and will try to
know more especially about NGOs of various marzes and isolated groups
during his visit in Yerevan.
